About Me
Dr. Perry Hooper is a Montgomery native and graduated from Trinity Presbyterian School. Dr. Hooper then attended Auburn University where he was a walk-on football running back and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences. After undergraduate, Dr. Hooper received his medical degree from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Georgia graduating in the Sigma Sigma Phi Osteopathic Honor Society and serving as Student Government President.
Dr. Hooper completed his orthopedic surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic under distinguished leaders in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. During his training, he served in leadership roles as chief resident and as a representative on the program education committee.
Dr. Hooper also pursued specialized training at the renowned Cleveland Clinic Sports Health in Cleveland, OH. Notably one of the leading institutions for the research, diagnosis and treatment of sports medicine and orthopedic injuries and disorders, Cleveland Clinic Sports Health exposed Dr. Hooper to advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgical techniques. As a surgical fellow, Dr. Hooper served as assistant team physician for local high schools, university and professional teams, including Cleveland State University (Division I), Baldwin Wallace University (Division III), Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA) and Cleveland Indians (MLB). Dr. Hooper also traveled as a team physician for the Cleveland Indians Spring Training.
In addition to hands-on training, Dr. Hooper has written numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and surgical technique guides related to his extensive research on hip, knee, elbow, and sports-related injuries. The publications have earned him several accolades locally, nationally and internationally, including presentations with the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, the Cleveland Clinic Orthopaedic Research Day, the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society and awards from Cleveland Clinic, American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopaedics and Mt. Sinai-Barry Friedman Foundation.
Dr. Hooper specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of hip, knee, shoulder and elbow disorders. Through the use of advanced open and arthroscopic surgical techniques, he focuses on restoring damaged joints, ligaments and bones through minimally invasive techniques to keep his patients active and healthy.
As a result of his specialized training, Dr. Hooper is a candidate member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orhopaedics (AOAO), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA) and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
Dr. Hooper and his wife, True, are excited to return to Alabama as they both have family ties to Montgomery. He enjoys spending time with his children - Charlie (4), Perry IV (2) and Reese (newborn). In his free time, Dr. Hooper likes to golf, exercise, ski, hike, and travel. He looks forward to continuing his role as a team physician and plans to care for amateur and professional athletes in the great state of Alabama.
