Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care

Spiritual care is an important part of your healthcare. The Baptist Health Pastoral Care Department is available for you whenever you need spiritual or emotional support. Whether it's the birth of a child or the loss of a loved one, our chaplains can provide you with the guidance you need during life-changing events.

We make rounds among our patients as requested and indicated, not just those in critical conditions. Should you need immediate assistance you can reach the chaplain on-call by contacting the Baptist Medical Center South operator at (334) 288-2100 or the Baptist Medical Center East operator at (334) 277-8330 or by asking a nurse or caregiver to contact us.  A chaplain is on call 24/7.

We, too, abide by the Baptist Health mission: As a witness to the love of God through Jesus Christ, Baptist Health exists as a voluntary not-for-profit organization to promote and improve the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the people and communities it serves through the delivery of quality healthcare services provided within a framework of fiscal responsibility.

The vision of the spiritual care staff is as follows:

“The Spiritual Care team of Baptist Health strives to provide professional and compassionate care for our patients, their loved ones and our staff as we assist them to find hope, resilience and inner strength in times of transition, distress, and thanksgiving.”

Our chaplains are trained professionals who are aware and respect that our patients come from different religious backgrounds, traditions and cultures.  Please do not hesitate to call upon our staff for assistance. Our goals are:

  • Listening intentionally
  • Connecting compassionately
  • Loving unconditionally

Along with spiritual/emotional support, our chaplains can also provide you with information regarding Advanced Directives for Health Care: Living Will - Health Care Proxy and other informational needs you may have.
