Pre-Delivery Support and Preparation at Baptist Health

Obstetrics AwardBeyond the typical care offered by obstetrics facilities, we provide an array of services to thoroughly support mothers, babies, and families during the childbirth journey.

Baptist Health offers childbirth classes taught by experienced nurses, and designed for mothers to prepare for a safe and healthy delivery. We also offer infant safety and CPR classes for new parents and grandparents, so you and your family can rest assured that you’re prepared for welcoming your new baby to the family.

We also proudly house a Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Specialist for advanced care and high risk pregnancy for those who qualify.

Best in Class Delivery Support and Childbirth Care

During your delivery, you can expect a safe environment with highly qualified nurses and doctors on your team. You’ll also have access to teams of neonatal specialists through our Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Both of our NICU locations are equipped to handle the tiniest of arrivals, and our skilled NICU staff team up with parents to ensure they leave feeling confident when it's time to go home. Parents of NICU babies can “room in” with their babies before they leave the hospital with nurses nearby to answer questions.

Postpartum Resources at Baptist Health

At Baptist Health, we know that the maternity journey doesn’t end with childbirth. With that in mind, we offer extensive breastfeeding support for new mothers. To help moms breastfeed successfully, we offer assistance in several forms:

  • Classes
  • Support groups
  • Phone support
  • Weight checks for babies

Moms can also rent breast pumps through the Lactation Center at Baptist Medical Center East. Phone support, retail, and outpatient breastfeeding assistance is available to all mothers, regardless of where you delivered your baby.

OB Emergency Department

Baptist Medical Center East is home to the only OB Emergency Department in Central Alabama with an OB/GYN physician on-site 24 hours a day, 365 days a year through our partnership with OB Hospitalist Group.

Baptist Health and OB Hospitalist Group have a shared mission to elevate the standard of women’s healthcare by ensuring every expectant mother is evaluated and treated by a physician regardless of time, location, complication or circumstance. These highly skilled, Board Certified OB/GYNs provide consistent care to patients in the hospital and emergency care to those arriving in Labor and Delivery.
