Heart Health
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, but many women still think of it as a men’s disease. Symptoms of heart disease in women and men can be different, leading many women to brush off telling heart attack signs.
Keep in mind the following information: While chest discomfort is the most common symptom for both women and men during a heart attack, it is possible to have a heart attack without experiencing chest pain or pressure. Women are more likely to have other symptoms, including back pain, jaw pain, shortness of breath, indigestion, and nausea or vomiting.
Possible Symptoms:
- Heavy ache in your chest or back between your shoulder blades
- Sharp pain in your upper body
- Shortness of breath
- Breaking out in a cold sweat
- Unusual or unexplained tiredness
- Feeling dizzy or light-headed
- Feeling sick to your stomach

Heart Disease
Heart disease affects the blood vessels and cardiovascular system. When plaque builds up in the walls of the arteries, the arteries narrow and blood flow weakens. This can cause a heart attack or stroke. A cardiologist can also diagnose problems such as an irregular heartbeat, heart failure and heart valve abnormalities.
Your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, diet and lifestyle play a key role in your heart health. If you’re not aware of your numbers, please contact your physician for an appointment. Our cardiovascular care services can address any heart health concerns.
