Pelvic Disorders
The pelvic organs include the vagina, cervix, uterus, bladder, urethra, small intestines and rectum. The pelvic organs are held in place by muscles and connective tissue in the pelvic floor. These muscles can weaken over time, causing the organs to sag.
This can lead to several gynecological and urological problems, including:
- Incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse (fallen bladder, dropped uterus)
- Recurring urinary tract infections
- Blood in urine
Childbirth and the stress of labor weaken the pelvic floor. Other causes include:
- Prior pelvic surgery
- Menopause
- Aging
- Intense physical activity
- Genetic factors
Effective treatment is available. Our urogynecologists specialize in treating these pelvic disorders. We offer pelvic floor reconstruction, and surgical procedures that can restore pelvic floor function.
