Curriculum

In addition to the family medicine core curriculum, a wide variety of clinical rotation experiences are available to resident physicians depending on their particular focus. The program enjoys the support of Montgomery area physicians who serve as clinical instructors and provide specialty and sub-specialty training for the residents' rotations.

The program's annual curriculum is divided into 13 blocks of two to four weeks each instead of a monthly calendar. This allows for 39 rotations for the entirety of the residency experience and also allows all rotations to start on a Monday.

First year residents start with a four-week block of Family Medicine Practice and Principles that takes them through an in-depth orientation to becoming a successful resident and then they rotate through, in no certain order, three blocks of the family medicine in-patient hospital service, one block of inpatient hospital pediatrics, one block of maternity care, one two-week block of newborn nursery, one block of general surgery, three two-week blocks and one four week block of ambulatory medicine, two two-week blocks of emergency medicine, and four two week blocks of night float.
