Medical Student Clerkships
Third-Year Medical Students
The MFMRP welcomes medical students from LCME schools who wish to do a 3rd-year family medicine clerkship. The clerkship allows the student to round with our residents on the hospital services and see patients at our residency clinic. Please have your medical school contact our Program Director at MFMRP@baptistfirst.org for approval of a clerkship.
Fourth-Year Medical Students
We offer fourth-year family medicine electives (often called acting internships or audition rotations) to students desiring to match into a family medicine residency. We have a large number of requests and unfortunately cannot accommodate every student. Therefore, we have an application that must be completed that can be obtained by contacting our Program Coordinator at MFMRP@baptistfirst.org. We accept students currently enrolled in Allopathic and Osteopathic schools.
Observerships
We have limited openings for observerships and they are offered very selectively on a case-to-case basis.
Pharmacy Students
MFMRP collaborates with Auburn University. Dr. Heather Whitley, our faculty member, holds her primary appointment with Auburn University's Harrison College of Pharmacy. Through this collaboration, student pharmacists in their final year of study complete a 5-week rotation at the MFMRP. When they are not seeing patients with Dr. Whitley, they round through patient care encounters with the family medicine residents and faculty. They help answer drug information, selection, and dosing questions and aid in patient education.
